Haiti

The command of Paul to Timothy, in II Timothy 2.2, to teach faithful men in order to reproduce the Gospel for evangelism,could very well sum up the ministry of the Maggards over the past thirty odd years. The present work in Haiti is no different. Seeing an unmistakable open door the Maggards have committed to training pastors, evangelist, and missionaries in the country of Haiti.  They are presently training more than 30 Haitian men in their Seminaire Baptiste Evangelique for ministry. The Maggards also work with the My Father's House Orphanage in Petion Ville Haiti. The My Father's House Orphanage houses more than two hundred children at present.

Scattered for the Gospel

Last Sunday as I was preaching in Haiti, I spoke about how the first century persecution on the believers in Jerusalem scattered them everywhere preaching the Gospel.  The devastation of the recent earthquake seemed to have a similar effect as the persecution.  People were scattered everywhere.  Some estimate as many as 700,000 to 1,000,000 Haitians have been uprooted, scattered and are trying to get relocated.

It was in one of these areas being flooded with the scattered Haitians that we launched the new church plant in Crois des Bouquet last month.  Like the church launch in Antioch, recorded in Acts chapter 11, many have turned to the Lord and the hand of the Lord is upon them.  Last Sunday 41 were present for the Sunday School hour and about 75 came in for church service.  They are happily meeting under a big tent set up in the playground of a school right next to a large tent city.

Their disaster brought them a season of mourning, but through Christ, by the preaching of the Gospel and the work of the Spirit, some are experiencing the “JOY” and the spiritual dawning of a new day in their lives.

Prayers on Our Behalf, Your Prompt Response?

Tomorrow (Saturday - March 20) Ron Maggard and a team of half a dozen Pastors and Christian workers will be heading to Haiti in to begin the 3rd Patmos Baptist Church of Croix de Bouquet. Already, before the big thrust next week, a huge evangelistic mission has been going on in the area. This outreach has been headed by Riccardo St. Gellus, a Pastor and student of the Baptist Evangelism Seminary of Haiti.

 So far there has been about twenty-five Haitian men commit to help with the church plant in Croix de Bouquet. So far, through the hard work of the Haitian pastors, in preparation for this church plant there have been nearly twenty people make professions of faith. Prayer meetings are already being held in Croix de Bouquet.

The new church, 3rd Patmos Baptist, will be pastored by one of the Haitian Seminary students. The following is an excerpt from an email from Pastor Riccardo:

Croix Des Bouquet

This month the evangelistic focus in the ministry of Haiti will be in the area of Croix des Bouquet (Kwadèbouke in Creole).

This region has seen a terrific influx in population since the January 12th Earthquake. Croix des Bouquet was spared much damage from the earthquake because of its distance from the epicenter. As a result there has been a massive refugee camp set up in this town.

Croix des Bouquet will be the center of the outreach for Baptist Evangelism this month.

The following is a report from Pastor Riccardo in Haiti regarding the upcoming effort in Croix de Bouquet;

Mourning to Morning

The theme that we've adopted for the ministry in Haiti is "Mourning to Morning". In wake of the devastating earthquake we realized so much of the Gospel is about bringing people from mourning to morning.

In a social aspect this means bringing the physically, mentally, and socially hurting (mourning - grief) to a place where they can see the Bright and Morning Star of God. We believe the Scripture when it says that "joy comes in the morning."
